How Do I Become a Member of Imani?
Joining Our Church
Church membership is open to anyone who confesses God raised the Lord Jesus from the death on Calvary’s cross, acknowledges Jesus Christ as their Savior, has placed their faith in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins and has been baptized by an ordained minister into a mainline Christian faith. If you have not placed your faith in Jesus Christ for forgiveness of sins and have not been baptized our ministers will assist you with these spiritual decisions and guide you in the steps to justification and sanctification salvation. Attend our worship service and at the end of the worship hour come forward to speak with a minister or lay leader or make your way to a new life and joy in Jesus Christ.
Requirements for Membership:
- Saving Faith
Trusting in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins. This decision is the beginning called "justification by faith" but not the ending of what it means to follow Christ as you move daily living life in your conversionary process to become disciplined and "Christ-like" in "sanctifying faith."
- Baptism
Baptism is an outward, visible demonstration of an inward spiritual transformation which comes about when one trusts in Christ alone for salvation.
We baptize into a single process and may use your choice of several methods of application of water including: pouring, sprinkling and total immersion.
Jesus’ command, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…” (Matthew 28:19, emp. added). The English word “baptism” is transliterated from the Greek word baptisma, which signifies dipping or immersion (Thayer, 1958, p. 94; Arndt, Gingrich, and Danker, 1979, p. 132). The word baptize (baptizo) in Greek means to “dip” or “immerse” water.
- Ezekiel 36:25 as scripture illustration “And I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols”
- Immersion illustrates the believer’s identification with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
(Romans 6:1–11, Colossians 2:12, Matthew 3:6, John 3:23, Acts 8:38)
"A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh" (Ezekiel 36:26-NRSV).
